Low Fat Foods

08/16/2019

When trying to lose weight, there are always two main concerns that must be addressed: food and exercise. What you take in versus what you burn off. This article will focus mostly on the food part of the spectrum, specifically on a low fat diet that would minimize the amount of fat that needs to be burned off.

What you must understand is that food in itself is not really fattening. It's the way we prepare it that turns it into a calorie bomb. For example, a regular apple would 53 calories in all. However, an apple pie would be around 250 calories. Finishing a slice of apple pie would be tantamount to eating around 5 apples! Now, if you just ate the apples, you would have been satisfied with just one, right? You see the difference?

Hence, in order to undergo a low fat diet you're going to have to undergo some lifestyle changes. Eat more fresh foods and less processed. In fact, if you really want to succeed, then you're going to have to do a complete kitchen revamp. What does this mean? Well, basically, this means replacing your stock of high-fat foods with low fat foods. Now, even if you have to get rid of that perfectly good gallon of ice cream, don't worry. You'll be surprised at how many delicious low fat foods you'll find in the market. Following is a list of low fat foods that could help you in your kitchen revamp.

  • Olive oils, safflower oil or flavored oils
  • Any type of canned fish
  • Whole grain breads
  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned fruits, preferably in light syrup
  • Beans
  • Whole wheat pasta
  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • For snacks, whole grain crackers, low-fat popcorn and jell

Although the list is not as wide as you want, it at least gives you an idea of what you should stock. Now, it's time to consider food types that you should get rid of. Oil-packed fishes, packaged macaroni and cheese should be let go from your grocery list. Also, sweet or sugary cereals, white bread even your coffee creamer.

Of course, we can't list down all low fat and high fat foodstuffs here, but you should be able to have clues when shopping. The label should be enough to give you a clue. Look for words like low fat, fat free and even extra lean. Although these are not totally void of fat, they definitely have lesser than other food types.

What you must understand is that most fruits and vegetables are low in fat. This is why they are never missing when it comes to prescribed diets. However, keep in mind what is mentioned above. It's not always the food but the preparation. Hence, if you feel like eating chicken, then make it roasted skinless chicken. If you feel like eating fruit, make it fresh fruits.
